Gueydan High School's principal has been accused of committing battery against a sixth grader.

Gueydan Police Chief Kayla Henry tells our news partners at KATC that the alleged incident happened following a group photograph in the school's gym. The family of the boy, who is a special education student, says Principal Luddy Herpin allegedly "put his hands around the boy's neck" after yelling at him to "put the ID on" following the picture.

Principal Herpin says the student was being "disrespectful" and that he "stared me down." after apparently not listening to the principal. The principal says four other teachers witnessed the incident and denies the allegations, saying he put his "hand on the boy's shoulder for less than a second.
