Jim Simon, General Manager of the American Sugar Cane League joined 'Mornings With Ken & Bernie' today to stress the importance of the Farm Bill as it applies to the Louisiana sugar cane crop.

According to Simon the Farm Bill is being considered this week on the Senate floor and fortunately the portion of the Bill that concerns the sugar industry have no costs associated with it.  Simon said,

"Our sugar producers don't receive any direct payments or subsidies from the Federal Government so at a time when budgets are really tight it's good that our program is 'no cost' so there's not a whole bunch they can cut."

Simon said basically the sugar provisions in the Farm Bill protect the industry from cheap subsidized imports.
