FARMERVILLE, La. (AP) — The Union Parish School Board and Farmerville High School are beginning the steps necessary to change the school's name to Union Parish High School by the 2013-14 school year.

Superintendent George Cannon told The News-Star Tuesday the decision was made by the board in 2010 as the district began consolidating high schools, but implementation of the name change had been delayed.

Cannon said the conversion to the new name will likely be gradual over the next 10 months, with matters like school signs, team names and team uniforms that have to be considered.

He said that budget considerations, like the cost of replacing team uniforms, might determine some of those decisions.
