Police were called to the scene of a fatal crash on LA Hwy 30 last night shortly after 8 p.m. The crash claimed the life of bicyclist 37-year-old John Trueblood of New Iberia.

The investigation revealed that Trueblood was traveling southbound on his bicycle at the same time as 62-year-old Mark Broussard of New Iberia who struck him after failing to notice the reflector attached to the bike.

Broussard struck the rear of Trueblood's bike which ejected him.

Trueblood was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Martin Parish Coroner's Office and a toxicology report is pending.

Impairment by Broussard was not suspected to be a factor in the crash.

State Police would like to remind bicyclists to never assume that motorists can see them. In addition, equipping a bike with the proper lights, reflectors, and following traffic laws are a key factor in avoiding crashes
