Crash Near Erath Takes Life Of Abbeville Man

State Police say that a two vehicle accident took the life of an Abbeville man.

It happened around 11:50 am when 35-year-old Jamie P. Landry was driving north on Highway 339 when, for unknown reasons, he crossed the center line and hit a sugarcane truck being driven southbound on 339 by 32-year-old Juan Reyes of Abbeville.

After it was hit, the truck overturned and came to rest while Landry's vehicle went into a ditch before coming to a stop.

Landry sustained fatal injuries and was officially pronounced dead by the Vermilion Parish Coroner.  Reyes sustained minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

State Police from Troop I are still investigating the crash and are not sure if Landry was wearing a seat belt at the time.  Routine toxicology samples were taken and sent to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The intersection of Highway 339 at Broadview was closed for several hours Sunday while police were on the scene.
