20-year-old Deontra Kendrick Kately of Lafayette faces a manslaughter charge for his role in allegedly turning a family fight into a fatal shooting.

Our news partners at KATC say 22-year-old Damion Sonnier of Lafayette died of a gunshow wound after he stepped in the middle of Kately and a family member during an argument. Lafayette Police say Kately had pulled out a gun during the argument and allegedly shot Sonnier in the abdomen after he stepped in between them.

Kately was indicted on Wednesday. He faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison and up to 40 years behind bars.
