Father Kills 2 Children, Self In DeSoto Parish

FRIERSON, La. (AP) — DeSoto Parish sheriff's deputies say a 39-year-old father shot and killed two sons aged 4 and 7 and then killed himself.

The Times reports (http://bit.ly/JwZYU8 ) that Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle identified the father as 39-year-old Scott Swanson and his two sons as Alton, 7, and Jacob, 4.

The sheriff said all three were killed by shots to the head. He says three other people inside the house were not injured, authorities said.

The shootings occurred at around 1:30 a.m. Friday near the town of Frierson, a rural community south of Shreveport.

Arbuckle said a motive for the shootings had not been determined.
