A 55-year-old man leaving his home with his two children on Tennessee Street around 7:40 a.m. Thursday morning is listed in guarded condition in the hospital after he was shot in the stomach by two alleged suspects.

Lafayette Police spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton says two suspects allegedly approached him as he left his home beneath the carport and demanded money. Cpl. Mouton says the victim shoved his two children back inside the home, and when he turned around, was shot by one of them.

Mouton says the two men, described as black males wearing hooded sweatshirts, were last seen running away from the area in the direction of Louisiana Avenue. Police have received information that there were three black males standing near the intersection of Center and Tennessee Street prior to the robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lafayette Police or Crime Stoppers at (337) 232-TIPS.
