Caroline Fayard

Democrat Caroline Fayard announces her intentions to run for Secretary of State this fall. Fayard will run against Republican Tom Schedler, who currently holds the position. Fayard ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor last year. UL Lafayette Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says Fayard has a chance to defeat Schedler because he is lesser known amongst Republicans in the state. Cross says, however, its not a favorable climate for Democrats to run for statewide office, which could hurt Fayard's chances. During last year's lieutenant governor's campaign, Jay Dardenne pointed out Fayard failed to vote in half of the elections in the past three years. Cross says that could cost Fayard, especially since she's running for an office that oversees elections.
