NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The FBI says a felon from Maryland and a convicted Louisiana  hit man allegedly arranged to kill the hit man's former lawyer.

The Louisiana man told authorities about the plot before it could be carried out.

An FBI agent's statement identifies the men as Donald Sylvester, serving life for killing a federal witness, and Kenneth Lee, released Sept. 25 after serving time on a weapons conviction.

The agent says that weeks after Lee's release, Sylvester told federal prison officials in Florida that Lee had offered to kill anyone he wanted. He said they'd used "fitness training" as a code to set up a hit on Robert Jenkins, whose other clients have included former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin.

Lee was arrested Dec. 23 in connection with the plot.
