Federal Tax Deadline Pushed Back Because Of Isaac

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Individuals who filed for an extension on their 2011 federal income tax returns will get a little extra time to make their filing, thanks to Hurricane Isaac.

The Internal Revenue Service said Wednesday that it will push the deadline for filing extended returns back to Jan. 11, 2013. The deadline had been Oct. 15.

The extended deadlines are being applied to storm-impacted parishes and counties in Louisiana and Mississippi.

The Times Picayune reports tax deadlines that impact corporations and businesses were also pushed back to Jan. 11, including a Sept. 17 deadline for companies to file their extended 2011 tax returns.

Estimated tax payments for the third quarter, which businesses would normally have had to file by Sept. 17, are also not due until Jan.11.
