UPDATE – Accidental Fire Destroys Lafayette Home

Update: The fire happened at a home in the 200 block of Frienship Street in Lafayette. No one was home at the time of the incident.

Firefighters ruled the fire an accident because of a heating device being utilized by the owner. The owner forgot the appliance was plugged and it ignited a plastic container and eventually the floor carpeting and other combustible items.

Lafayette firefighters have been very busy this morning working to put out a fire in a home.

Firefighters were able to put out the blaze that engulfed the home on Friendship Street this morning.

While the fire is out, firefighters are still on scene to make sure no other flames start.

Police do not yet know what caused the fire.
