Lafayette Fire Department Public Information Officer Alton Trahan says that two abandoned structures in the 100 block of Antique Alley burned up early Saturday morning.

Around 5:00 a.m. Saturday, Lafayette firefighters were called out to Antique Alley after a fire had been reported.

When they got to the scene, firefighters two abandoned structures were fount to be fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters battled the two-alarm fire for about an hour before getting it under control.

They were able to stop the fire from spreading to two adjacent homes, but the two vacant buildings were completely destroyed.

Police say the two buildings were vacant for years according to one of the occupants of an adjacent home.

One building was an old woodworking shop, and the other building was a two-story apartment.

Trahan says the vacant buildings were often occupied by transits and homeless people.

The cause of the blaze is still being investigated.
