This week on 'Firearms Friday' Glenn Fleming discussed among other things:

  • Brass burns
  • Steel cases versus brass cases
  • Russian to discontinue ammo shipments to America
  • 80% complete rifle actions
  • Arming for possible civil unrest
  • Changes to Facebook's gun policy
  • California's 'not so smart' gun idea

As he does every week Glenn began the show with a safety tip concerning hot, burning ammo cartridges. According to Glenn,

One day you'll be shooting a pistol and the brass will go up and then come down and probably go in your shirt. You don't want to jump up and down waving your arms because nine times out of ten your the guy shooting so you don't want to be waving a loaded gun everywhere...Always keep your gun on target.

We had seen and heard some discussion about the pros and cons of steel versus brass cartridges and asked if there was a difference? Glenn said,

I've been shooting for a long time and have shot a lot of steel cartridges and never had any trouble caused by the cartridges. Supposedly the brass guys say steel cartridges are harder on the extractor but the reality is steel cases don't expand as much as brass so extraction should be easier. Steel cases are usually cheaper but you can't reload them...but they are cheaper.

Recently a rumor has circulated that Russia will soon stop exporting ammo to the US but Glenn,

There's no reason to panic because even if Russia does stop exporting ammo to us other European countries will take up the slack. Prices will go up and it will take some time for production to catch up with demand but the ammo will still be available.
