SLAUGHTER, La. (AP) — State police say a suspected drunk driver caused a wreck that killed five people and critically injured two others in East Feliciana Parish.

The crash occurred on La. Highway 67 near Slaughter around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Trooper Russell G. Graham says a pickup driven by 30-year-old Brett Gerald of Greensburg crossed the centerline and struck a car head-on.

The driver and four passengers in the car were pronounced dead at the scene and two others suffered critical injuries.

The dead been identified as 64-year-old Brenda Gaines, 33-year-old Denise Gaines, 35-year-old Angela Mosely, 12-year-old Diamond Johnson and 6-year-old Jyren Johnson.

Gerald was booked with DWI, five counts of vehicular homicide, two counts of first degree vehicular negligent injuring and several other charges.

Gerald sustained non-life threatening injuries.
