Five Thursday night games involving Acadiana area schools kickoff the eighth week of the 2016 high school football schedule.

Yes, it’s hard to believe, but only three weeks remain in the 2016 regular season.

The five games are listed below:

Delcambre at Notre Dame:

In all honesty, you really can’t like Delcambre's chances in this District 5-2A game.

Notre Dame, the top-ranked 2A team in the state, is 7-0, overall, and 4-0 in district play, while Delcambre will enter at 1-6, and 0-4, respectively.

Notre Dame defeated Opelousas Catholic, 44-12, earlier this year, while Delcambre fell to that same OC team last week, 55-0.

The Pioneers have outscored district foes, 212-40, while Delcambre has been outscored, 209-53.

Lafayette Christian at Centerville:

This is another one that might get ugly.

Lafayette Christian is 5-2, overall, and 3-1 in District 7-1A play, while Centerville will enter at 1-6, and 0-4, respectively.

LCA defeated Gueydan, 62-7, two weeks ago, while Centerville lost to the Bears in their district opener in week four, 39-18.

Lafayette Christian can put up points, scoring 206 points in their four district games, while Centerville has allowed 173 points in their four district affairs.

Vermilion Catholic at Gueydan:

This is a District 7-1A game between two teams looking to finish the season strong.

Vermilion Catholic is 2-5, overall, and 2-2 in district play, while Gueydan is currently 1-6, and 1-3, respectively.

Vermilion Catholic started the season slow, losing their first four games, but opened their district slate at 2-0, before dropping two straight. Keep in mind though, their two district losses were to two good teams, in close games, as they fell to Ascension Episcopal, 40-34, and to Central Catholic 28-21.

Gueydan has just given up too many points this year, allowing 42 points-per-game, and will have to find a way to slow down the VC offense to have a chance.

Central Catholic at Hanson:

This is another District 7-1A affair, the third on the evening.

Central Catholic is 4-3 overall, and 3-1 in district play, with their only district loss being a tough 46-42 setback to Lafayette Christian. They have the offense clicking in district play, scoring 153 points in four district tilts, for an average of 38 points-per-game.

Hanson is 2-5, overall, and 1-3 in district play, after losing to Lafayette Christian last week, 50-33. They have been good, offensively, over the last two weeks, scoring 74 points, after scoring only 72 in their first five games.

Port Barre at Pine Prairie:

Both teams are 2-5, overall, and both are winless in District 5-3A play, at 0-2.

Port Barre has had issues scoring this year, scoring double-digit points only twice in seven games, with their highest point total being 14 points. The Red Devils, who have been shutout twice, are only averaging 6.5 points-per-game.

Pine Prairie hasn't exactly lit up the scoreboard either, scoring only 7 points in their last two outings, and are averaging only 10 points-per-game.

Both teams need a win.
