The Army Corps of Engineers closed five gates on the Morganza Spillway this week, leaving only 12 of the 125 gates open. Jeff Graschel with the National Weather Service says this will help prevent significant flooding along the Atchafalaya River. Graschel says river levels along the Mississippi River have crested and started to recede but there will still be high water for quite some time. Graschel says the levels of the Mississippi River will determine how much time before the Morganza will be completely closed.
