The project that has been talked about since the 1990s is again being discussed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Over the next year the Corps of Engineers will be planning the task of clearing out the Beau Basin Coulee that runs through Carencro.

Project leader, Durund Elzey, is seeing that the $5 million project goes well and says that the work on the coulee could begin as soon as the end of 2013.

The work comes after about 480 homes were flooded in Carencro in March during a storm that put the area under about 10 inches of water. Carencro City Manager Jay Castille said that the flooding in March could have been prevented if the coulee project had been completed.
