The man who allegedly kidnapped a Florida girl and then led police on a high-speed chase through central and southwest Louisiana was indicted Wednesday on charges of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated criminal damage to property.

Ashley Lyon, the 16-year-old girl from Valrico, Fla., left her home with Steven Myers on June 11.

News of Lyon's disappearance was widely spread, and two people at a truck stop in Gross Tete recognized the girl from those reports. That sparked a 40 mile chase that came to a fiery end atop an Interstate 10 overpass in Lafayette.

During the chase, Myers allegedly stabbed the girl and then himself multiple times.

The states of Louisiana and Florida--where Myers is facing charges of interfering with child custody, attempted sexual activities with minors, and traveling to meet a minor--are still trying to work out jurisdictional issues, officials told our media partners KATC-TV 3.

Myers remains in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
