BASTROP, La. (AP) — Morehouse Parish Schools Superintendent George Noflin hopes Monroe City Schools Chief Financial Officer Derenda Flowers will be able to bring his district's finances in line, minimizing the need for consolidations and reductions in force.

The Morehouse Parish School board has approved hiring Flowers as the district's new business manager.

Monroe City School Board president Verbon Muhammad said Flowers, who also served as the district's interim superintendent, will resign her CFO position next month.

Morehouse Parish has failed to approve its 2013-14 budget in accordance with Louisiana law, which requires the budget be approved by Sept. 15.

Noflin said although the district has a surplus in its general fund, board members do not want to pass a budget that uses the surplus to create a balanced budget.
