A former Carencro Middle School guidance counselor has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for possession of cocaine in a school zone.

In May of  2010, Kenrard Broussard was caught in a school zone in New Iberia while picking up a package of cocaine.  Broussard was charged with possession of more than 200 grams of cocaine in a school zone. His 18-year sentence is without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension. He says he had been receiving shipments of cocaine from someone in Houston and he was selling the cocaine to supplement his income.  Broussard was convicted on December 8, 2011.
