22-year-old Linebacker Trent Mackey and Tulane University have decided to go their separate ways, leaving open the possibility of the former Carencro product possibly becoming a Ragin' Cajun.

In his two years at Tulane, he was very successful, leading the team in tackles. In the 2011 season, he finished with 145 tackles and was even chosen by the media as the Conference USA preseason Defensive Player of the Year last summer.

But Mackey was suspended from the Green Wave football team prior to the 2012 season after he was arrested on conspiracy and armed robbery charges. Even though he was recently acquitted of those charges, Mackey and Tulane decided to still part ways, according to nola.com.

Mackey says, as he moves on, he wants to look at other schools in Louisiana and play football this fall. "My first call is probably going to be in Louisiana because it's home," says Mackey. "I think I might reach out to ULL and see if they are interested. If not, I'll make some other phone calls."
