ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — A Pineville resident and former state Department of Corrections officer has pleaded to a lesser sex crime charge and avoided a trial.

The Town Talk reports 36-year-old Aaron J. Jewell, a former Probation and Parole employee, pleaded guilty Tuesday to misdemeanor carnal knowledge of a juvenile. Pleading to the misdemeanor means Jewell is not required to register as a sex offender.

State District Judge Patricia Koch sentenced Jewell to six months in jail, then the judge suspended the sentence. He was placed on six months unsupervised probation, and ordered to stay away from bars, alcohol and illegal drugs.
