Former Iberia Parish Sheriff's deputy, 29 year old Cody Laperouse pleaded guilty today to violating a person's civil rights by use of excessive force. According to evidence presented at the guilty plea Laperouse, while working as a deputy, struck a handcuffed man who had been arrested and was lying on the ground. Laperouse was part of a detail assigned to disperse a large crowd after the 2013 Sugar Cane Festival.

Laperouse faces up to one year in prison, one year supervised release and a $100,000 fine. a Sentencing date has not been set.
