BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A former East Baton Rouge Parish Prison jailer accused of attacking an inmate last month has been arrested.

The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/16pOaQu ) 32-year-old Brent Ashley Rideau was booked Wednesday on counts of second-degree battery, a felony, and malfeasance in office. Rideau had worked in the prison since August 2008.

Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said Rideau was fired Aug. 29 following an internal investigation.

On Aug. 16, an arrest warrant says Rideau stormed into a cell with his fist drawn and punched William Wayne Duvall, a drunken inmate who had been using "racially charged rhetoric." Rideau is black and Duvall is white.

It was unclear whether Rideau has an attorney.
