A woman who was a former bookkeeper at Coccolare spa will spend thirty-seven months behind bars and she will have to pay restitution after getting her sentence for stealing more than 187,000 dollars from the Lafayette spa.

Angie C. Normand was accused of embezzlement between 2007 and 2011. Prosecutors say she would write checks out to cash and get the money, she was increasing her salary without the company knowing, and she also doctored financial records to cover up her crimes.

The owner of the spa, Dr. Cynthia Glass, testified that the businesses' finances were dismal until the books were carefully reviewed.  Once that happened, the theft was apparent.

Normand's attorney says alcohol abuse, codependency and depression were some of the issues the woman was battling.
