Former Lafayette Parish School Superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper has filed a lawsuit challenging his termination.

Cooper claims in his lawsuit that board members broke state law when they voted to fire him. He is asking a court to re-appoint him as superintendent or to force the board to pay the remainder of his contract, which would have ended Dec. 31, 2015.

Cooper's termination came after two days of hearings in which board members found him guilty of unworthiness, breach of contract, and failure to comply with board policy and state law.

No court date has been set to hear the case.
