Former Lafayette Superintendent Seeks Trial Date In Lawsuit

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Former Lafayette Parish school superintendent Pat Cooper's attorney has filed a motion to nudge the ousted educator's legal challenge of his November termination closer to a day in court.

The Advocate reports Cooper's lawyer Lane Roy filed a motion Monday requesting a trial date for Cooper's challenge of the school board's 7-2 vote to terminate him in November related to personnel and management decisions he made during his tenure.

Cooper filed the legal challenge about two weeks after the board made its decision. In the lawsuit, Cooper claims he was fired without cause and his ouster was political and for "reasons of vindictiveness."

The case has been assigned to District Judge Patrick Michot.
