Former NFL Tight End Henry Childs Dead At 65
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Former NFL tight end Henry Childs, a Pro Bowl player with the New Orleans Saints who also had stints with Atlanta, the Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay, has died at age 65.
Saints officials say Childs died in his native Thomasville, Georgia, on Friday. Saints owner Tom Benson, in a statement Saturday, says Childs is remembered as one of the top tight ends in franchise history.
A teammate of Archie Manning, Childs played seven seasons with New Orleans. He was selected for the Pro Bowl after the 1979 season, when he led NFL tight ends with 846 yards receiving on 51 catches, including five touchdowns.
Drafted by Atlanta out of Kansas State in 1974, Childs was acquired by New Orleans as a rookie. He played for the Rams in 1981 and Packers in 1984.
