The Cincinnati Reds gave their third round draft pick and former Ragin' Cajun Shortstop Blake Trahan 708,900 reasons to sign with their franchise.

According to the Reds and the MLB, Trahan will most likely be on his rookie ball with the Billings Mustangs, and he will be taking his $708,900 signing bonus with him. After being selected 84th overall, it didn't take the star shortstop long to add a little something to his savings account. This is the beginning of a long journey in professional baseball for BT. At least he has a nice nest egg to sit on to start.

Some folks felt he slipped too far in the MLB Draft. Some mocks had him going as high as the first round. For Trahan, the third round was good enough. The $708,900 bonus was surely enough. It's the respect he's out to earn now. Money comes with time and performance, but respect is what gets that chip off the shoulder.

Congratulations to Blake and his family. Cajun nation is proud...spend it, or save it, wisely.
