Former New Orleans Saints cornerback and captain Brandon Browner pleaded no contest to one count of attempted murder and two counts of willful child endangerment today in California, and has been sentenced to 8 years in prison, according to TMZ Sports.

Browner agreed to a plea deal as his no contest plea dropped chargers of robbery, burglary and false imprisonment.

Last July, Browner was arrested after allegedly breaking into an ex-girlfriend's home, dragging her and smothering her inside a carpet while her two children were present. He also allegedly stole the woman's Rolex watch.

After fleeing the scene, he was arrested.

Browner last played for the Saints in 2015 when the team signed him and he was voted a defense captain by his teammates.

His one year in New Orleans was disastrous, as he struggled on the field throughout the season, and was subsequently cut the following spring.

Prior to his time with the Saints, Browner played in the CFL, and then become a prominent member of the Seattle Seahawks "Legion Of Boom" secondary that won a Super Bowl in 2013.

In 2014, he signed with the New England Patriots and won another Super Bowl before landing in New Orleans.
