In an update to this story, a former Ville Platte head football coach has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in a 2010 wreck that killed his wife and a woman in another vehicle.

45-year-old Roy Serie was sentenced Wednesday by Judge Steve Gunnell to 10 years in prison, with all but seven years suspended, and three years' supervised probation. He could have faced up to 30 years.

District Attorney Michael Cassidy says all other charges, including a second vehicular homicide count, driving while intoxicated and vehicular negligent injury, were dismissed.

Serie was accused of having marijuana in his system when his vehicle crossed the median and struck another vehicle head-on on U.S. Highway 165 killing his wife, Sheila, and Shannon Cox.

A passenger in Cox's vehicle, Beth Zilbert, was severely injured.
