Galliano Mom Promotes Meningitis Vaccine Awareness

GALLIANO, La. (AP) — A Galliano woman who lost her son to bacterial meningitis in 2006 is working to promote public awareness of a vaccine for the disease.

Jeri Acosta tells The Courier of Houma that she wants to make sure no other mother has to go through what she went through when she lost her 20-year-old son Robert.

She has since become part of the Moms on Meningitis program of the National Meningitis Association. And last month she traveled to New York City to accept a MOMS on Meningitis award for her work. That work has included promoting legislation that requires universities to provide students with information about the vaccine.
