Voting precincts are opened until 8 p.m. tonight to cast ballots for state, district and local runoff elections.

Topping today's ballot is the race for Louisiana governor. U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R) is facing State Rep. John Bel Edwards.

In the state's lieutenant governor's race East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Kip Holden (D) is vying for the seat against former Plaqumines Parish President Billy Nungesser.

Within Lafayette Parish, the heated sheriff's race will be determined by voters today. Scott Police Chief Chad Leger is facing Mark Garber for the parish's top law enforcement role.
