The message from police has been clear for years, "Don't drink and drive", and that message will be mixed with some more enforcement this Saturday night.

The Lafayette Police Department will be conducting an OWI checkpoint starting at 9 o'clock this Saturday night.  Police say it will go until 3 o'clock Sunday morning.

Police says the checkpoint will be somewhere within the incorporated limits of Lafayette will the purpose of targeting impaired drivers under the influence of alcohol or any other dangerous substance.

As always, police say that officers working the checkpoint will respond with zero tolerance to anyone found to be impaired while driving.  Lafayette Police remind you to always designate a driver if you intend to drink.  They remind you that if you don't it could mean costly fines and serious jail time for you.
