Glenn Fleming Doubts Effectiveness Of Gun Buy-Back Programs

This week on 'Firearms Friday' Glenn Fleming discussed among other things:

• Gun safety
• Gun buy-backs
• Gun confiscation in California
• Government 'taking out' gun nuts
• Former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords
• Senator Harry Reid

Leading off with a safety tip as usual Fleming warned it is advisable to know what is behind your target. According to Fleming,

Recently some friends of mine that own a 105mm Howizter were firing it at a firearms 'shoot' when the round they fired skipped off the ground and hit a nearby house. The round did not contain an explosive round but it did make a lasting impression on the house. Always be sure of what is behind what you're shooting at.

With a 'gun by-back' being scheduled by 4th District Councilman Kenneth Boudreaux for the next day we asked what Fleming thought of the program and he said,

I think the councilman's heart is in the right place and I really don't want to poo-poo his idea but I will. Traditionally 'gun by-backs' don't get guns away from criminals. What they do mostly is get guns away from like a grandmother who was left a shotgun and she doesn't want that gun in her house anymore so she'll go ahead and turn it in.
