A Welsch man was killed late Friday night after trying to help out a fellow driver.

Sgt. James Anderson with State Police Troop D in Calcasieu Parish says 45-year-old Paul Mitchell Durio of Welsch was trying to help jump start a truck  that had broken down on La. Highway 14. The truck was pulling a camper.

Anderson says Durio walked to the rear of the truck to flag traffic. As he was doing so, he was hit by a car driven by 91-year-old Arthur Leger of Lake Charles. Leger also hit the camper.

According to Anderson, Durio was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries. Leger, who was wearing his seatbelt, suffered only minor injuries.

State Police continues to investigate the crash, but no charges have been filed.
