Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jiindal will unveil a plan Friday to balance the state's budget after it was discovered it would fall $171 million short.

Many higher education leaders have been concerned about possible future cuts to help offset that deficit, but the Jindal administration said public colleges won't be on the chopping block again.

The Jindal administration is blaming falling oil prices and anemic personal income tax growth for the deficit.

Under state constitution, Louisiana is required to have a balanced budget.
