BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Gov. Bobby Jindal has appointed Dr. Peter Cooley as Louisiana State Poet Laureate.

Cooley, a professor of English and director of the creative writing program at Tulane University, will serve a two-year term. In a news release Friday, Jindal said he also will deliver an annual reading in a location designated by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.

Cooley, of Jefferson, is the author of 10 full-length collections of poetry, eight through Carnegie Mellon University Press.
