A state of emergency has been declared for the state of Louisiana as Tropical Storm Nate gets ready to hit Louisiana as a possible Category 1 hurricane.

Governor John Bel Edwards issued the order as he prepares to meet with the Unified Command Group today to conduct updates on Nate at the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP).

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect from west of Morgan City to Vermillion Parish. A Storm Surge Watch is in effect for areas not protected by the hurricane protection levees.

Nate is expected to impact the area early Sunday morning, as either a strong tropical storm, or category one hurricane.
