An Avoyelles Parish grand jury returned an indictment against former Marksville City marshals in the shooting death of six-year-old Jeremy Mardis.

Norris Joseph Greenhouse Jr and Derrick Stafford were each charged with one count of second-degree murder for Madris' death. They were also charged with attempted second-degree murder for shooting and wounding Mardis' father, Christopher Few.

“Today’s indictments will allow the State to move forward in the process of seeking justice for Jeremy Mardis and to hold accountable those who are responsible for his death,” said Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell. “I appreciate the grand jury’s service, and I am grateful to the Louisiana State Police and other law enforcement agencies who have worked diligently to investigate this matter. My office will continue its detailed and thorough investigation as we prepare for trial.”

Second-degree murder is punishable by a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole. Attempted second-degree murder is punishable by 50 years in prison at hard labor.
