Guess What Ibuprofen Was Invented For
They say necessity is the mother of invention. That's why ibuprofen was invented, according to gizmodo.com. Popular culture has many hangover remedies, "hair of the dog," a greasy breakfast, sweating it out (I don't think so!!). back in the 1960's, Dr. Stewart Adams had a hangover after an evening out with friends. He was scheduled to deliver a speech, so he took 600 mg. of an experimental drug that was being developed as a potential treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. The non steroidal compound, known then as 2-(4-isobutylphenyl) propionic acid, is now known as ibuprofen. In today's world, such behavior by a researcher would be considered wildly insane. Well, it WAS the '60s. My personal favorite is ibuprofen & "hair of the dog," especially bloody marys.
