Just before 3pm Thursday, Fieldwood Energy, a Houston based firm, reported an explosion at its Echo platform located about 12 miles off the Louisiana coast. The Bureau of Environmental Safety and Enforcement said that the platform was not in production at the time. At the time of the report there had been no indication that any oil had spilled into the Gulf.
