Gun laws are set to become stronger in Louisiana. The bill before the Senate is SB 303, by Senator Neil Riser, and it will give the state one of the country’s strongest second amendment protections.

The bill has been approved by the legislature and will be heading for a vote on the ballot this fall to become a constitutional amendment.

Governor Jindal, who is in support of the bill says,

“We are adopting the strongest, most iron-clad, constitutional protection for law-abiding gun owners. It’s our own Second Amendment, if you will, and I look forward to voting for this amendment in the fall.”

The amendment states, “The right of each citizen to keep and bear arms is fundamental and shall not be infringed. Any restriction on this right shall be subject to strict scrutiny.”
