Glenn Fleming joined 'Mornings With Ken and Bernie' for 'Firearms Friday' and stressed that gun safety does not only apply to the correct handling of firearms.  Fleming said,

When shooting on a range, indoors or outdoors or hunting you must wear proper eye and ear protection.

We asked if prescription eye glasses or sunglasses were adequate protection and he replied,

No, prescription glasses or sunglasses by name are usually made of glass so they will shatter if hit by a shell casing or some other object.  I wear Oakley prescription protective glasses when I shoot.

When it comes to protecting your ears Fleming said in-ear or over-ear protection is better than no protection.
