Today (August 16th) is National Rum Day. Rum is America's 3rd most popular distilled spirit. We can surely attribute that to its versatility. Rum mixes well with a wide variety of ingredients, from colas, to various fruit juices. Rum has its origins in New Guinea, making its way to North America via the West Indies. Nationaldaycalendar.com. reports, the popularity of rum was a contributing factor in the American Revolution. The Sugar Act of 1764 placed a tax on rum, and 2 of its key ingredients, sugar and molasses, fanning the fires of colonial discontent. For popular rum recipes, click here. Happy National Rum Day!
