Harry J Smith passed away yesterday at the age of 89.  He is survived by four children, one sister and a brother.  He served in the Army during World War II, and was the owner and operator of Harry Smith's Lodge in Broussard.  He was known for hosting many concerts and private parties for companies here in Lafayette and surrounding areas.  Harry Smith's Lodge  was located on property now occupied by  Our Savior's  Church off of the Cade Hwy.  He was first known as  owner and operator of Big Hearted Harry's Auto Sales in Abbeville then Smith Lincoln-Mercury in Lafayette.  Smith was known  for caring for the needs of St. Joseph Shelter's, Faith House, Naomi House, and The Christian Brothers.  He was a member of the Men's Guild of the Carmelite Monastery and an active member of St. Jules Catholic Church.

Smith  is survived by 4 children: Ricky Smith of Ricky Smith's Audio, Gregory Smith, Cookie Smith Benson and Shelia Smith Kelley.  One sister Flo Smith Duhon Domingue and one brother John E.  Smith.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Louise Tauzin, daughter Marie Smith Copeland and son-in-law Steve Kelley.
