There's something about going off the beaten path in Louisiana that makes us want to explore our beautiful state more and more! Only in Louisiana has some locations around the state that locals may know about, but aren't necessarily tourist destinations. And that's ok with us! Let us know if you have any hidden spots that you'd like to share with your fellow Louisianians!

  • The Louisiana Castle - 47168 LA-10, Franklinton - built in 1991, and mainly used an event space for special occasions. A replica of an English Manor with beautiful lawns and gardens
  • Briarwood - 216 Caroline Dorman Rd, Saline - the former home of botanist, author, and forestry pioneer Caroline Dorman. She left this beautiful residence to the public, and it is located in the Kitsatchie National Forest, and is open to the public in March, April, May, October, and November
  • Liberty Lagoon - 11 Lobdell Avenue, Baton Rouge - not quite as big as the other Baton Rouge water park (Blue Bayou / Dixie Landing), but still charming and a family friendly place to while away the summer hours
  • Cajun Palms - 1055 North Barn Road Henderson - this luxury RV park has a swim up tiki bar, cabins, volleyball court, miniature golf course, and three pools. Even if you don't have an RV or camper, it's still a fun place to hang out!
  • Holly Beach - Cameron Parish - known as 'The Cajun Riviera', this beloved beach town was destroyed by Hurricane Rita, and again by Hurricane Gustav and Ike, but it's managed to rebuild for a very loyal Louisiana crowd. A great place to unwind on the beach right here in Louisiana!
  • Fairview Riverside State Park - 119 Fairview Dr, Madisonville - right on the Tchefuncte River, and home to the Otis House, which is on the National Register of Historic Places
  • The Rock Chapel - 1746 Smithport Rd, Mansfield - built by Carmelite monks in 1891, and if you want to visit, you need to get a key from the DeSoto Tourism Bureau
