High School Student Arrested For Setting Bathroom Trashcan On Fire

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office says a 17-year-old Northwest High School student has been booked into the jail on charges of aggravated arson for setting a school bathroom trashcan on fire.

Spokeswoman Captain Megan Vizena, says,

"On Friday, January 10, our office received a complaint from Northwest High School administrators stating a student had purposely ignited a fire in the girls bathroom. The student was identified to deputies as 17 year old Shavera A. Welcome. Welcome advised deputies she started the fire because she was upset that she was forced to go to school."

Welcome is currently being held at the St. Landry Parish Jail with a $7,500 bond.
