Higher Than Average Number Of Tropical Storms This Year
It's the official peak of the Hurricane Season. In an average year we can expect 10 named storms but this year we have already had 14.
There are currently three tropical systems active; Hurricane Katia and tropical storms Maria and Nate. State Climatologist Barry Keim
says conditions are ripe for a very busy second half of the season. Lee was the first named storm to hit the Louisiana coast in two
years. Keim says with the tropics as active as they are now, it's impossible to predict when - or if - another storm will make its way
into the Gulf. By the way. Tropical Storm Nate is WAY south in the Gulf, and expected to move west into the Mexican mainland.
